The Breakers Article:

The New York City Breakers are a breaking crew from the Kingsbride section of the Bronx, they met while attending John Peter Tetard. During the earily days of the breakdancing movement the crew rivaled the popularity of the Rock Steady Crew^[2]. Michael Holman was an up coming film maker promoting Hip-Hop parties at a club called Negril, getting board of watching the same breaking crew dance, he wanted to host a Breaking Battle. The Floormaster Crew accepted an invitation in 1982 offering to battle the Rock Steady Crew at club Negril. The Floormaster crew combined footwork, style and power, Holman saw the crews athleticism and signed on to be their manager. Holman took a four Breakers from the Floormaster crew (Action, Kid Nice, Glide Master & Powerful Pex) then recruited Lil Lep and with the help of writer "Phase II" renamed the group the "New York City Breakers".

The group consisted of the original five members: Action, Kid Nice, Glide Master, Powerful Pexster and Lil Lep. The group was completed after adding Flip Rock, Mr. Wave, Icey Ice and Lil Alex. The movie Beat Street featured (NYCB) battling the Rock Steady Crew and this scene has become legendary for all up-coming B-Boys. The battle scene inspired so many breakers and made them crazy about the art of B-Boying. The New York City Breakers also appeared on the first ever hip-hop TV show called "Graffiti Rock" created by Michael Holman. They also appeared on "Soul Train", The 1/2 Hour Comedy Hour, Ripley's "Believe It or Not", P.M. Magazine, CBS Evening News, Good Morning America, That's Incredible, The Merv Griffin Show, The Bob Hope Show, and they became the first ever Hop-Hop (rap/dj or dance) group to performed in Washington D.C for the President of the United States Ronald Regan. It was nationally broadcasted and is considered the first day America accepted Hip-Hop as a culture. After GLIDE MASTER pass away, the New York City Breakers quit performing.

They came back in the mid 90's performing at the Hot 97's "Old School Throwdown Jam III" and then again on Squirt TV on MTV in 1996. NYCB reunited with Action, Kid Nice, Powerful Pexster, Lil Lep, Flip Rock with B-Boy London and Speedy Dee the generation of New York City Breakers from the early 80's. The NYCB's can be seen in the film "The Freshest Kids". B-Boy London went on to host Pseudo's live internet program called "88 Hip-Hop", then hosted the daily one-hour live hip-hop show from Metro Channels called "Studio Y" with Monie Love.

Breakdance adalah tarian yg memadukan seluruh gaya. Breadance juga merupakan perpaduan dari beberapa unsur gerakan tergantung selera. jenis musik, maupun keahlian crew maupun breaker’s
Di dalam breakdance terdapat empat struktur pokok yaitu :
- Top Rock.
- Foot Work.
- Frezze.
- Power Move.
Top Rock adalah gaya yang bertumpu pada gerakan kaki yang menari-nari, biasanya top rock dilakukan untuk menambah fondasi dari tarian tersebut, Top Rock juga harus mengikuti rythem atau ritme dari lagu yang dimainkan Dj, jadi kita tidak boleh membuat ritme sendiri. Karena dapat mengurangi penilaian jika melakukan battle.
Foot Work hampir sama dengan top rock, tetapi foot work biasa di lakukan dengan tubuh dibawah, contoh beberapa gerakan foot work : Helicopter, 3 step, 6 step, sweep, dll. Dalam foot work juga breaker’s (sebutan untuk bboying cowo maupun cewe) harus mengikuti ritme dari lagu yang dimainkan.
Frezze adalah gaya yang dipakai di akhir maupun di tengah – tengah tarian kita,frezze gerakan yang sangat – sangat membutuhkan kekuatan fisik, jika fisik tidak terlalu kuat, frezze yang dilakukan juga hanya sebentar (berkisar 1 detik – 3 detik) dan frezze yang di lakukan juga frezze tingkat mudah atau rendah. Contoh gerakan – gerakan frezze : baby frezze, chair, air baby, dll. Di sini breaker’s tidak harus mengikuti ritme dari musik, tetapi jika breaker’s ingin melakukan frezze harus disertai waktu yang tepat agar terlihat lebih baik atau menambah nilai didalam battle.
Power Moves adalah tarian yang melibatkan kekuatan tubuh dan kelenturan tubuh, biasanya power moves dan frezze yang membuat orang tertarik dalam breakdance, karena gaya – gayanya mempunyai tingkat kesulitan yang tinggi. Power Moves tidak harus juga mengikuti ritme musik tetapi jika bisa mengikuti mungkin bisa menambah nilai dalam battle, contoh power moves : 1990’s, 2000’s, windmill, turtle, flare, headspin, handspin, dll.

Di perlukan latihan yang rutin untuk bisa menguasai gaya - gaya ini dengan sempurna. tidak jarang orang melalukan kesalahan, yang berakibat vatal! biasa para breakers bisa begitu handal karna mereka latihan rutin dan diberi bakat alam. jadi disaran kan kalo tidak bisa jangan dipaksa karna akan berakibat vatal.

Biasa breakdance juga nggak jauh m grafity,, misal ngebrik di tempat2 yang ada grafity ato malah para breakers sendiri yang buat grafity.
grafity itu seni, nggak semua orang bisa buat garfity. di butihin kreatifitas yang tinggi n keteliti-n.

Breakdance juga nggak pake sembarang sepatu, sepatu yang dipake biasa sepatu khusus, ya khusus brekdance bukan khusus sekolah, hE.... merk bervariasi n harga juga bervariasi. biasa para brekers menggunakan merk Converse, dc, adio,nLL. kalo mengenai harga biasa masih bisa di jangkau oleh pelajar kayak saya khusus nya.
